Update on High Court visits to business premises

16 June, 2020

Enforcement visits are a last resort, in cases where attempts to make contact by letter and telephone have not been successful.

On 24 March, we announced that we had ceased all enforcement visits until further notice. We did this voluntarily, in recognition of the COVID-19 situation. Legislation was later introduced that had the effect of prohibiting enforcement visits to domestic properties. Visits to business premises were not prohibited.

Over the past 12 weeks, we have worked hard to ensure that enforcement visits can be made in a safe and responsible manner, and in full compliance with government and public health guidance. All agents have also been given specific training on coronavirus-related issues.

In line with the High Court Enforcement Officers’ Association (www.hceoa.org.uk/home), High Court visits to business premises are resuming, where appropriate, from 17 June. These visits are to make contact with business customers that we have not been able to reach by letter or telephone.

Business customers may still be able to prevent a visit to commercial premises by contacting us using the details we have provided to them.

We recognise that the number of people experiencing challenging circumstances will have increased due to COVID-19. For those affected, their ability to cope or make payments may have been impacted. We have enhanced our procedures to identify, and provide support to, customers that may be potentially vulnerable.
