The government offers grants to support the wider use of electric and hybrid vehicles via the Office of Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV). The OZEV grant (also known as the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme or ‘EVHS’) offers electric vehicle drivers 75% off the total cost of new smart home charging points, up to a maximum of £350 (including VAT).
The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is a voucher-based scheme that provides support towards the up-front costs of the purchase and installation of electric vehicle charging points, for eligible businesses, charities and public sector organisations.
The On-street Residential Chargepoint Scheme for local authorities provides access to grant funding which can be used to part fund the procurement and installation of on-street electric vehicle chargepoint infrastructure, to meet residential needs, in line with the minimum technical specifications.
The Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme is a grant that provides a 75% contribution to the cost of one charging point and its installation. A grant cap is set at £350 (including VAT) per installation. The main requirement is that a person owns, leases, or has ordered a qualifying vehicle and has dedicated off-street parking at their property. A person may apply for two charging points at the same property if they have two qualifying vehicles.
The grant works by a customer choosing an EVHS installer to install their charging point. The EVHS installer checks that they qualify and then applies on the customer’s behalf. The installer will bill the customer for the price of the installation, less the grant amount they have applied for. If the application is successful, the installer will be paid the grant amount that they have off-set from the customer’s bill. OZEV aims to process claims for experienced installers within 30 working days.
