Water is a precious resource. With a rising population and the prospect of climate change causing more extreme weather, the need for resilient water and flood risk infrastructure has never been more urgent.
Project Centre’s flood and water management team is passionate about providing solutions that deliver multiple benefits for people, nature and the built environment. We work with public and private sector clients, supporting their needs through the assessment and design of flood alleviation schemes, drainage and green infrastructure, as well as planning processes and public consultations.
Sustainable drainage systems
Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) offer an alternative to hard engineered drainage by working with and mimicking natural processes to store and treat stormwater. As well as reducing flood risk, SuDS features, such as rain gardens, swales and wetlands, enhance places for people and wildlife. Project Centre can assist with the selection and design of the most effective SuDS measures, helping to manage surface water in a more environmentally sustainable and cost-effective way.
Flood modelling and mapping
Project Centre’s engineers use industry standard hydraulic modelling software to assess and map areas at risk of flooding from surface water, rivers and sewers, including MicroDrainage, InfoWorks ICM, TUFLOW, Flood Modeller and HEC-RAS. From catchment-scale flood maps to assessing community rain gardens, we have the modelling tools to deliver any project.
Flood alleviation schemes
Project Centre conducts feasibility studies and design for flood risk management schemes. Hydraulic modelling is used to evaluate the impact of proposed interventions and properties protected from flooding. We also help secure support for schemes from stakeholders through public consultations and funding applications.
Flood risk assessments and drainage strategies
We are experienced in the preparation of flood risk assessments and drainage strategies to secure planning consent for developments. This helps to save time and money during the planning process.
Policy development, guidance and planning
Project Centre delivers development control services for a number of lead local flood authorities. This provides us with an unrivalled understanding of the requirements of local authorities relating to flood risk and surface water drainage. We also prepare policy and guidance documents including Strategic Flood Risk Assessments, Surface Water Management Plans and Supplementary Planning Documents.
